Best fried fish in Richmond. I finally had the chance to try the catfish. Did not disappoint. Will forever be a fan of their cornbread. Still not crazy about the lines but hey, when the food is this good, you suck it up.

Amazing! Don't get turned around by the lack of curb appeal. The layout is actually nice but a bit drab looking. Apart from that can I tell you everything we ordered was excellent. Super fresh. Made to order so expect a well worth it wait. Id honestly give them 6 stars. The cashier was very patient and took time with us to ensure we got what he thought would please us admit was our first time there. And get this, the owner came out to personally meet us to thank us. They even have a patent on their cornbread recipe. Will pull up on my way back to DC but might check out their sister restaurant called Croaker Spot.

Sugar's has been on our list to try for a long time and we finally made it there today. My husband and I split the sampler and it was amazing. It was a ton of food for the two of us to share and it was absolutely delicious. The fried oysters were some of the best we've ever had. Someone came out to check on us and see if we needed anything once the rush was over. We will definitely be back soon. One of the best meals we've had here in Richmond.

The lines speak for themselves. Who is going to wait outside, regardless of the season, for 30+ minutes for bad food? Nobody.

Yo! I'm hitting this spot EVERY TIME I touch down in Richmond! The servings are great and the price is reasonable. They're playing (some of) my favorite music from (one of) favorite stations. There's outdoor seating . The guys are all about great customer service. The call you over the loudspeaker & show you your order prior to hanging it over to you. I love seafood & music (give me a good, cold brew and it's a wrap). You guys are IT!!!

Sugars Crab Shack in Richmond, Virginia, is a must-visit! My mom recommended this hidden gem when I was visiting family in my hometown, and I was craving seafood. We went on a Sunday and were one of the first ones in line. Pro tip: get there right when they open because within 10 minutes, a line had already formed! They only had outdoor seating but it was such a nice day to sit outside! It also had really nice photo opportunities to take a picture at. The menu had so many options, and everything looked incredible. My boyfriend got the fish and shrimp with a side of fries, while I had the fish and oysters with potato salad. We also couldn't resist trying the crab cakes. When I say this food was AMAZINGG, I mean it! The fish was so moist and flavorful, and both meals came with buttered toast, which was a nice surprise. The crab cakes were full of crab, and the oysters were easily some of the best I've ever had. Even though we ordered a lot, the wait was only 15-20 minutes, which was super quick given the generous portions. The man at the cashier was also really friendly and hooked me up with some extra oysters, which was a lovely touch. The only downside was that I couldn't take my leftovers back to Florida with me, seriously heartbreaking because the portions were huge, and I wanted to savor every bite. If you're in Richmond and love seafood, please come hungry, because you get so much food for your money. 10/10, I can't wait to come back again!

First time here, won't be the last. Huge portions for a reasonable price. The catfish was excellent, with a spicy breading. Very friendly service as well. The seating is all outdoors, but there are umbrellas at every table, so it's not a problem unless it's pouring.

I recently visited Sugar's Crab Shack and finally got to try their food! The special combo of wings, popcorn shrimp, toast, and fries for only $19.19!! Along with the snack meal that came with 3 fried fish and buttered toast. I also got the mac and cheese, and bread pudding. Beware that the wait time does take a bit, the food took about half an hour to be ready. But the generous portions made it worth the wait. The workers were also very nice and you could tell how passionate they were about the food. The popcorn shrimp and fried fish were pretty good. But the mac and cheese could use a bit more flavor, I could mostly just taste cheese. But the fries--wow! They were super big, thick like wedges, and extra crispy, adding a great texture. The bread pudding was just okay since i'm not a huge fan of raisins, but overall, it tasted like French toast if you're into that. Despite the wait, my overall experience was great. You get a ton of food for an amazing price!

Friday 3/22/2024 This spot right here is a black owned restaurant that absolutely gets it RIGHT. I got the 2pc catfish special $10.75, snack & fries $11.85, and bread pudding $5. Both the fish and the catfish were very good and the tar tar sauce is a great sauce for it. I'm a fan of the fries as they were crispy and seasoned well. The bread pudding was a bit smaller than i expected and it comes with a lemon glaze icing on the side (which it didn't really need but that's just me). The bread pudding smelled amazing and it tasted pretty good as well. I 100% recommend this spot and I would definitely come back if I was ever in the area again.

I'm so glad I was finally able to try this place! Every time I go pass, there's always a line so I never stop to try it. I got the fish snack which comes with one side (fries). The staff is so pleasant and friendly. I was greeted as soon as I got out of my car! The menu is huge! They have so many options, I had a hard time deciding what to order. Once I ordered, my food was served fast and hot! I love the way they open your to-go box for you to see your food before you take it. The fish was cooked just the I like it! It was crispy and flavorful. The fries were so good! It's almost like they're battered! The outside was seasoned stand crispy and the inside was fluffy. I cannot wait to try the other items when I go back!
